When you think Milwaukee history, your mind probably goes straight to beer. And although it’s a key player in Milwaukee’s history, the production of leather and leather goods was also integral to the city’s rich, industrial history.
The first tannery in Milwaukee opened on Clybourn Street in 1842 and from then on, for the next 80+ years, more and more tanneries opened as the city saw an increase in New England and German settlers. The Civil War contributed to mass production and helped make Milwaukee the undisputed leader in the state. And at its peak in 1910, it was the largest leather manufacturing center in the world.And now, while over the last 90 years things may have cooled down on the manufacturing front, we’re ready to bring back a piece of history to this city by creating a new leather shoes, boots and accessories retail store, right in the historic Walkers Point neighborhood.
At Milwaukee Boot Co., we will be offering multiple brands of both footwear and accessories. When our doors first open, we will be featuring Moral Code. Then in the beginning of the Autumn/Winter 2020 season, we will be proud to put Milwaukee Boot Co. boots and accessories on to our sales floor.
